OMG! That’s Gone Man; this is what I said to myself when I early this morning Playing with my Phone and Bricked it Almost. And I don’t know, whether to Put my experiences here or whatever worthy, It happened to me all of sudden since 1-1/2 years SII Experience and Luckily I Foresee the Solution and situations like this. The solution is not much complicated. Firstly, narrow down the problems you are facing because of Soft bricked or Infinite Boot problems. Only Few to Narrow though Luckily 🙂 -> Is your phone stuck at Boot logo or Battery Logo? -> Is your phone Rebooting just when connected to Power Supply unit -> Is your phone able to reboot into Recovery Mode (Volume UP + Power button) ? or Just Download Mode (Volume Down+Power+Home Button) Speaking in context to Samsung Galaxy SII -> Have you tried pulling out your battery and hold your breath and anxiety for minimum about 15 minutes? and tried rebooting now after Battery Insertion?
Problem Sources: Incompatible ROM or Kernel Flashing Majority Times
If you can narrow down your problems referring with above, you can take a deep breath, cause it’s the same happens to most experimenting guys out there… If you just played with ROM, you have to play around with New ROM to Put it onto SII; Meaning you will loose Data on it, Check this link to download and fix ROM Issues, if you played with ROM. If you played with Kernel and It lead to ROM un boot problems, then Old working kernel will help you recover your phone in seconds away work; Which will be This Post teaching how to do it. If your phone doesn’t go to Recovery mode or Download mode;( See above instructions on how to Go to them using Phone Hard-switch Buttons) then it’s just your confusion state, give it a 15 minutes Battery out time for your phone to get back to normal cases, where you can see At-least download mode later on… So If you just stuck at infinite boot problem or whatever, 15 minutes battery out will isolate the problems. I am so hardly stressing out the Battery out time, because it will help the ROM memory states to clear allowing such time.
Fix Kernel Specific Boot Problems Guide
Note: The kernel Specified here is for S2 only, if you are S3 user, then Check http://www.gokhanmoral.com website and download OLD kernel for S3 phone. If your phone is neither s2 nor s3, try XDA developers thread to check how to get your specific phone’s kernel to work around this method for you. Flashing wrong kernel caused you this troubles, do not repeat the same step again, flashing wrong variant Phone’s kernel now again. Now Download ODIN3 tool on your Windows PC and run it as Administrator… And now Download Old Working Kernel of your Flavor; Majority times, Siyah Kernel is the choice for Major users, so with them in mind, Download Old Working Siyah Kernel From here (Note: This is A Siyah Kernel Version 4 Released on September 8th, which worked for me, So i used the OLD kernel to get back my ROM Booted off from this Working Kernel. Now, start ODIN Tool and Be aware that Kies has to be taken down from Task manager and Put Your Phone into Download MOde and press Volume UP for confirmation. Then once the ODIN shows you the Port is identified by the tool, proceed to downloaded Siyah kernel from PDA se;ect Menu in ODIN tool, Do not touch anything in the tool now and never… See the below Screenshot for precise Instructions and for Clarity. Once You See the ID:COM is Detected when your Phone is connected in Download Mode, then Message Box will tell you 0:x number is Detected and once assured, Select PDA only and tick mark it and Click on PDA and Go to Just downloaded Siyah Kernel and attach it to this PDA Menu (Note that the Kernel is in TAR Extension) And now Click on Start Button in the COntrol Panel located above the PIT option. And that’s it your Kernel will be Downgraded to a working Kernel and Your phone will Boot up Once finished. Happy Flashing! and Voila.. Thanks Chaladi. Hi Chaladi,
Mine is a samsung galaxy S2 with most probably kitkat android.
Steps that led me into problem:
—————————————
I was not doing anything on kernel etc.
On using hotspot for a few minutes, my phone heated and hung, so I took the battery out. However, I plugged battery quite soon like in a minute.
This got me into problem listed below.
Problem:
———–
Now when I switch on phone it goes past Samsung logo, and phone, sms, clock etc icons appear but then it starts saying
TwLauncher has stopped working.. force close
Logger has stooped working.. force close
and many more
And even after clicking OK, it just goes on showing these messages.
What I have tried:
———————-
1. Power off phone, took out battery, switched on.
=> Again saw same problem as listed above.
2. Using Volume Up+Power On+OK buttons got to safe mode, then clicked Reboot Now
=> Again saw same problem as listed above.
3. Got to safe mode (as 2 above) and clicked “Wipe cache” then “Reboot Now”
=> Again saw same problem as listed above.
Little more on error:
————————-
In safe mode when it goes to reboot it shows a problem saying cannot load file and shows some file name.
No data backup:
——————–
In safe mode (Volume Up+Power On+OK pressed together), there is also an option of “Wipe Data/Factory reset”.
I do not want to try “Wipe data/factory reset” as I have data (pics, videos, sms, contacts, apps) which are NOT backed up.
Backup does not seem possible:
—————————————-
When I connect phone to pc using ysb cable, the device there comes up but shows empty. So cannot access the files on the phone.
Please advice
(a) is there a way to backup pics, videos, contacts in my phone’s condition?
(b) how to fix the messages (listed in problem above) without loosing data?
Thanks in advance.

Hey i wanted to install a custom ROM on my S2 GT-I9100.. But kinda failed i guess.
I started by downlad ODIN tools from the xda forum, o flash CWM recovery. After i flashed the recovery it put my phone off automaticly so i pressed vol up + power to go in to the recovery, that worked and i jad CWM 6.0.xx (sorry forgot). But when i tried to turn on my phone normally it didnt work. It took me to the Samsung Galaxy SW GT-I9100-page but from there my screen turned black and (i assume) the phone was off.. The battery was 31% so that was not the issue.
But i hoped it would helpbto install the .zip rom fipe anyway.
Soni got back to cwm and installedbthe rom, it succeeded and rebooted my phone, it asked me to root again, i said NO on that.
And now the samsumg-page is stuck and dont know what to do.. I just didnt had enough samsung experience to do this, didnt try anything yet, i’ll be waiting for you response!
Thanks

Cwm flashing doesn’t mean your phone can now boot. You have to copy ROM to ur sd card N then put back into ur phone and navigate to cwm recovery using cwm combination keys n then I install kernel n ROM. You will have to get kernel from net. A good kernel would be siyah or dorimanx for s2 released.

Hi, after spending hours reading all the posts, hoping to find and understand how to recover my Galaxy S2 GT-I9100, I am some what confused.
Phone: Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Locked on Orange in the UK
On ICS
Not rooted.
What I want to do is recover my data, Photos which are on the S2 memory NOT SD Card, and contacts which are not in the SIM card.
Fault: whilst wanting to do a back up of the contents of the phone using Samsung Kies, the S2 would not connect.
I re booted the S2, now after the carrier logo it gets stuck at the Samsung logo.
Windows sees the phone as a camera, not as a Mass Storage device and does not show any folders or contents.
I can get the S2 into the Andriod (non rooted),recovery mode. Vol Up+Pwr
I can get the S2 into the Custome OS download mode. Vol Down+Menu+Pwr
I have been tempted to select from recovery Wipe data and reset, as suggested in one of the posts above, but do not want to risk losing my data.
How what do I do, what can I do without losing any data?
Please advise.
Thanks D.

Hi Dharmendra,
Sorry, I missed your comment somehow. I think, flashing the kernel will help boot off android, however not 100% sure, since the phone isn’t rooted. But we can try flashing the kernel and check if this works for us. If this fails, then we can try backing up data using ADB backup tools. I have not tried this tool personally, so cannot guarantee this too.
However, to use this adb backup, the usb debugging shld be enabled. Is it enabled on your phone?

forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-official-i9100-t2448450
Remember that your data will be gone if u flash rom on original android rom. In upgrade cases this is not the case.
Also remember that siyah kernel must be specific to ur device, get it from original gokhanmoral website…
Any issues, revert…

If u would like to preserve data… First try flashing kernel only… If ur rooted via odin tool.
This works if ur on rooted rom, else the cwm recovery and kernel flashing should be done on original android rom if ur still on stock rom, else if all fails u must flash rom with kernel…
Here recovery too should be flashed, cwm file should be acquired for this process.
Cheers!

First Flash Kernel Alone and check if this fixes…
Then Flash the CWM Just like As I said above in the post – Flash using PDA/AP as option selected to browse the CWM file. Ensure the CWM file is in tar Format. Also check Re-Partition option is not ticked.
Let me know if you have any issues.
Steps to do now:
-> Get ODIN Tool First to flash your Phone – Here it is
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/?files_box=c399862d3b9d6b7
Extract to desktop or ur desired location
Ensure your phone is detected in ODIN, just as I said on my post. before proceeding further.
-> Then, to flash Siyah Kernel with ODIN, Get this file here http://d-h.st/Bcf
TO flash, as I said in my post, work with ODIN and get this flashed.
-> Then check if it can boot off your phone, If required, you may flash CWM from ODIN Tool.

I tried Blazing Kernel and Siyah provided by you in first comment of yours.Purchase country is Pakistan , year 2012 and android version was ICS , dont remeber the version numerics exactly.
In the meanwhiel i had another bad news for me and confusing one for you,i tried repair as described from this link >>> http://ok-interesting.blogspot.com/2012/02/repair-your-bricked-i9100g.html, but it further worsened the problem , loaded the PIT file then pressed start in downloading mode, later i uploaded the software given there , it started downloading on te system i was happy Repartition, Auto Reboot and F rest time was checked , first box showed Factoryfs and the it went on and on, When i returned , the set was off and the ODIN was showing Passed and log ended with success. However since then the phone is not responding. Its acting like a dead body neither accepting any charger i.e. showing batter sign or charging sign nor responding to any of the Hardware commands i.e Power on, Downloading mode etc.
I guess its all gone now, am i sure ?

When i used to flash it with your mentioned kernel, it passed in ODIN but still hangs on the the phone detail logo, i tried few other kernels too but no gain, please help as i dont want to lose huge amount of data stored on it related to my job.

Hi, I flashed the Siyah kernel and everything seems to be fine, but when it reboots I see a yellow triangle under the written “Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100” and after that it shows a picture (never seen before) and the screen becomes black, but the phone is on since windows tell me there is a USB connected Android device.
If I press power button for a while is not on anymore (not seen as a usb-connected device and the phone shows the battery as when I turned it off when it was working), and if I try to switch it on again same as before, after the written and the image the screen is black again so I don’t know if I can access data somehow.
With phone on (still black screen) I try to use Kies to connect and access data but with no success, it just keep Connecting and never succeeds.
I can access ClockWorkMod and I can backup on external SD card, I’ve done it but not sure if and how I can recover data from there (.img and .tar files, md5 and some other) and what is better to do now.
Can you help me please?
Do you think I can access data? How?

Hi, as I wrote the screen is black so I can’t really access my phone, don’t even know if it is still working properly. I would like to save data in a format that I can access before doing anything that could erase them.
I’ve backup phone on external SD card (going through ClockWorkMod backup menu), I have it in tar and dup format but tar is not accessible, using tar command for opening it it says is doesn’t seem a tar archive and also clicking on it doesn’t help, the same for other saved files (.img) …any idea why? maybe there was some problem so data are not correctly saved (that’s why I post all the info I saw).
Also the /clockworkmod/backup/ folders have wrong date, could it be a problem when accessing it again from phone?
What would you suggest? I would like to save data and be sure that I have everything and readable, if I can manage to do that, and only after install whatever I need for letting my phone working again.
Thank you!!!!

Hello Meri,
Apologies for the delay. I cannot understand that how you are accessing this TAR file? You back up this Android using CWM and it made a tar file; that is NANDROID backup. Now How you are trying to access this TAR File?
Is it via PC that you trying to access this tar file? You somehow able to view files in tar file in PC with tar viewer, but not sure how can you conclude that TAR file is inconsistent?
Also, img is for Boot and you have no control over it from PC. only CWM/ODIN/Application that was created to read these can Understand.
If the CWM says, Backup of NANDROID is success with MD5 generated successfully, then we should be good with it – hopefully.
If for some reasons, however you want to test it, please do it using another rooted Same Model Phone… But I know the chances of simulating this is very less, as this needs a replica phone. Or else you can restore and test this backup, but since your phone screen is blacked out, can’t understand if the restore worked for us.
Also, I don’t understand CWM Backup has wrong dates – What’s this? Maybe the date set in your phone is not up-to-date and the same is reflecting in the CWM Backup.
Please let me know if you have any other concerns.
Cheers!

Hi! Thank you!!
I’ve tried to access the tar file via command line in cygwin and double clicking on it in windows, but no success. The tar command says ”
tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors”
and if I double click on it it says from explorer: “invalid archive directory”.
After backup it doesn’t explicitly say that the backup was successful, but it says what I wrote
“Backing up boot image….recovery image….system…..data…” which seems fine, but it also says
“No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache…
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum…
Backup complete!”
which doesn’t seem to clarify that it was completely successful.
About dates, I think there is something wrong in the phone so when the backup is done it is saved with wrong date.
My idea is that my phone is not in good condition 😀 and that probably the backup hasn’t completely succeeded. I was trying to access data somehow to check, so what do you think: considering the condition of my phone (black screen but I can access CWM and make backup), is there any way now to save data and access it from PC? if yes how?
I don’t have other phone where to test the backup so I really would like to find an alternative way to access data…Do you know if there is any application to read this kind of files created by CWM? Or any way to access part of them or to convert them to some other format readable from PC? it seems to me that data is saved as data.ext4.tar + data.ext4.tar.a + data.ext4.tar.b (other files are related to cache, boot, recovery, system)
Thank you very much for your help and patience 🙂 !!!

I think this shld be okay then… But I cannot guarantee the data integrity.
If data is ur main concern, i am not sure what else can be done to verify this unless you restore it to a similar phone as said earlier.
Or else you can try a stock/ dorimanx kernel and test further… Last option left with.

I dont think any safeway to do this… That can retain data… We can try flashing old siyah kernel… But not sure if this boots off ROM. But since you have backed up data from cwm recovery… You may copy this data to pc… And let this checked from another phone.

If u cannot copy to pc using usb.
We may hav to use otg or adb to backup…

But I cannot guarantee that data will be intact, however a safe try we can do.

I’ve put out battery for a while, nothing changed. I can boot into recovery mode and download mode. I’ve just tried wipe cache partition and nothing else. I really would like not to lose data and to have my phone working again 🙂

Hi prasanna
Don’t panic, just charge the battery full and takeout it for atleast 1-2 hours off phone and reinsert the battery and press the download mode combinations keys…
That will get u to download mode for sure. This Time ensure u flash correct Rom kernel or cwm.
Let me know if u need any help further… And lemme know the battery out worked.

Dear Chaladi,
I crashed my s2 gt-i9100g. while searching for solutions, I found your blog, which was very useful.
I thought i almost solved the problem. unfortunately, it is not so and am still stuck. Could you please help me out?
I did the following before ended up with a colorful screen with tiny bits:
I rooted my phone for the first time successfully and I was trying to install CWM by flashing the blazing kernel. I am pretty sure by now the file i used was corrupted but the surprising thing is, CWM got installed correctly. Am able to go to the recovery mode, but at the end of installation, it said reboot your phone now. I did and the Reboot crashed. Crashed in the sense, i am not able to explain exactly what’s happening. But, once the phone reboots I see a colorful lines on my phone and it never turns off. Somehow the rebooting is not working. First when it happened, i removed battery for 15 minutes and then I was able to reach the download mode. I did a stupid thing then, i turned it off as i did not have the odin and the new kernal downloaded yet. I downloaded them and tried to reach the download mode but I can reach back to the CWM recovery, but not the download mode. So from recovery mode, I did wipe data and factory reset, it got completed but when i rebooted, again the colorful lines
I started Odin and the phone got identified, but it was not in download mode. But, still i thought of following the steps you mentioned above. So, I added the siyah kernal file on PDA and started it, but it stops after this:
Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
File analysis..
SetupConnection..
It will not progress from this step. How do I proceed? Do I still have a chance to get the phone back? I have all my contacts and photos backed up. I dont mind loosing others things on the phone. Can you please help?

Hi Rekha,
Here the only problem is incompatible Kernel u flashed. The ROM is not able to boot off of kernel. So u can easily waive this issue by flashing a new kernel that works best for your ROM.
Before telling u the kernel u need to flash off, please let me know the ROM u r on. Like is it Stock ROM that u tried to Root and installed CWM? or have u installed Custom ROM too on that?
If, you have just rooted ur phone and Did CWM and tried for a Blazing kernel for Stock ROM; means Original Phone Android version/Updated Android over Software updates in phone or via Kies only, then U can get the 9100g Kernel and flash it off using SD card.
But before we proceed further, please answer those questions for a clear process.
Cheers! 🙂

Hi,
if u can get into recovery mode via CWM, then i would recommend u to take out ur SD card and copy the Kernel file I give down here to SD card and insert into phone and get ur phone to recovery menu and Flash zip from SD card option in CWM.

Hi Chaladi,
Thanks for the reply. My android version was very old (4.0.3). I did any software update from Kies or from phone only. I wanted to get CWM to update it to new version as the auto update never worked for this old version phones. So, I tried to root. After that I followed instructions on one of the websites and I read it was mentioned clearly for i9100g. So I downloaded this Blazing kernal V3 with CWM6 file which was on the website and I placed it on my external SD card and flashed it. I am doing for the first time, so I am not really sure of more technical details apart from this. But, I can say for sure, I did not play with any custom ROM. I would have done it if this has gone right and me doing it anymore, i doubt it
I did install ADB before I tried all this. But, am not sure if it is still intact.
I have downloaded the files. let me know how to proceed.
Also, I got the kernal which you have mentioned above and tried flashing it. It gets aborted immediately. Is there any other way??!!

So, have u tried adb commands to put Ur phone into download mode?
— no, i dont know to use adb commands. I just downloaded it before following some instructions on a website. But, apart from that I dont know anything. Do I install that ADB zip which you have given?
Are u trying to flash kernel via recovery mode via odin? If so that doesn’t go well, cos download mode is required for Odin.
— I tried to flash kernal via recovery mode, but not through odin. I just went to the recovery mode and chose the file from sd card and installed it and rebooted my phone. thts when the problem started.
Can u still not able to get into recovery via cwm?
— yes, I can get into recovery mode. (that means, when i hold volumeup+home+power button, after the samsung flashed for two times, I get into a page with black background where i see options from CWM recovery)
What was the error saying exactly in odin?
— When I tried installing the new kernal from SD card, not through odin and it said installation started and then installation aborted with a yellow exclamation mark.
Please help me proceed. Take your time, no worries.
Its not an issue of national security 🙂 But, please help.

Just another thing, if it helps. When the phone is in CWM Recovery mode, the odin tool does not identify the phone. Only when it has got that colorful lines page, odin shows the phone is connected. I tried flashing the kernal with that mode and it never goes beyond set up connection stage.

Ok. that seems a good info. U connect the phone in those colored lines and goto ADB folder from Command prompt.
For this to be done. Extract the ADB folder onto desktop and open Command Prompt as Administrator (right click the command prompt and Select run as administrator)
From there change directory to ADB on desktop ( type cd and desktop and adb folder as per ur current path)
and then once phone connected in those colored lines. type “adb Start-server” hit enter
now type “adb devices” to see if device is detected. If detected it shows u there as devices under list of devices attached.
then type “reboot download”
then it will goto download mode, and then u can attach ur phone to ODIN for flashing the files.
Please let me know how it worked.

1- Kernel File: http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2/kernels/JB/jeboo_kernel_i9100_v1-2a.tar
2- ROM – http://dl.omnirom.org/i9100g/omni-4.4.2-20140314-i9100g-NIGHTLY.zip
3- ROM MD5 File – http://dl.omnirom.org/i9100g/omni-4.4.2-20140314-i9100g-NIGHTLY.zip.md5sum
First Copy this Kernel File, ROM file and MD5 file to your SD Card and put back the SD card and install Kernel ZIP File via CWM from install via ZIP.
and don’t reboot yet. Now install ROM via same install from ZIP process.
Now, go to advanced settings and clear dalvik cache and then reboot. and see how it helps.

I tried flashing new ROms again, but nothing worked. I tried factory reset, wipe data and all that too. I flashed a stock ROM, it unrooted my phone but the same problem exists. Odin works fine in my cell. What do you think will help revive my phone?

Hi sanjay,
With Odin, try putting up totally new kernel, New Rom that is better stable, where kernel and Rom combination is highly recommended.
U start off putting up New kernel, like boeffla or siyah that works for Ur device model specifically and then put up New Rom.
Let me know if u have already did this too. Btw Get some stable kernel version.

Hi Mark,
Download Mode – Downloading Don’t close or appear no indication about the progress u doing on phone.
You boot off ur phone again in download mode and Flash a new kernel now, like Siyah kernel for your phone specific from ODIN tool. That will definitley boot off ur phone. But if ur ROM fails to load from the kernel, then U have to flash again new ROM for ur phone from ODIN again in Download mode.
You have to be specific choosing the Right kernel and ROM.
Please brief me your problems if still persists.

Hello,
First off, this process will void warranty. please proceed if you are happy with that. But chances are we can restore to original factory phone, but sometimes that doesn’t work. SO warning you that it will void warranty.
Only proceed if you are satisfied to not to cover under warranty.
In case, if you feel like not doing it right way, please msg me, I will see if I can help you with that.
I am giving you some instructions to root your phone and allow to use our phone to full potential.
1. You will need these 4 files before proceeding:
Odin 1.8
T989 USB Drivers (Windows only)
Clockmod Recovery for T989 (flash with Odin)
Get Superuser app Superuser app 3.0.7
2. Install, unzip the USB drivers and install them on your computer
3. On your phone, go to SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>DEVELOPMENT Check USB Debugging
4. Now plug in your phone and a menu will come up asking if you want to mount as a USB drive. Select it and copy the SuperUser zip to usbStorage folder on the internal drive (really anywhere is fine but I will keep it simple here and select a folder)
5. Unmount your phone and unplug it from the computer.
6. Now, unzip Odin file and open the folder. Inside it will be the Odin app. Launch Odin but do NOT connect the phone yet
7. To flash with Odin (which is a Samsung Testing application) you will need to boot your phone into DOWNLOAD mode. To do this, do the following:
POWER OFF. Then HOLD VOLUME DOWN and keep pressing it and then press power. It will boot you into the following screen. Press UP to confirm you want to flash

*This is different for us Telus users. T-Mobile have to press both buttons and then connect
8. Now, you can connect your phone to your computer. Wait for odin com port to turn YELLOW before proceeding
9. On ODIN, Select the PDA button and browse to the recovery.tar. Make sure Re-Partition is NOT checked (it shouldn’t be). Now press start and let it flash the custom recovery. It should say PASS once finished. Close Odin.
10. Next, disconnect your phone. Power it off. We will now need to get into the new recovery module you flashed. To do this press both VOLUME UP AND DOWN and hold them. Then press power and wait till it boots-don’t keep holding power. Once you see the recovery screen let go of the volume buttons immediately. Sometimes, I am not fast enough and the phone reboots. If this happens HOLD the VOLUME buttons again and repeat the process.
You should see something like this:
11. Using your volume buttons, navigate down to BACKUP and RESTORE. Choose:
(NANDROID) BACKUP
*To make a selection press the POWER button (it acts as a return key). This will create a complete backup of your stock phone in case something goes wrong. If it does, you can always boot back into recovery and choose RESTORE from the BACKUP and RESTORE menu. Nice huh! Don’t skip this step or you will be sorry.
12. After the restore choose “GO BACK” to return to the main menu. Then select ADVANCED and choose FIX PERMISSIONS. Once this is complete navigate back to main menu
13. Once back at the main menu, choose INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD. Select CHOOSE ZIP FROM INTERNAL SDCARD. Navigate down to the usbStorage folder and select the su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip or su-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip file. Go to main menu and reboot system.
You are now rooted!
This means you have full access to system files and is like jailbreaking on an iPhone. You should have a superuser app installed. If not, you are not rooted.
If all done correctly, you will have superuser app installed in your phone. Then open that app and it will ask for permission, if asked, then we are success.
Please let me know in case of any issues or help is needed.
Cheers Gorgeous…

Hi Chaladi,
I didn’t play with my phone’s ROM and it’s not rooted. I was using viber app when suddenly my phone got frozen (as it usually does). I waited for a couple of minutes but it remained frozen, so I turned it off by pressing the power button for a few seconds. When I turned it on, it got stuck on the boot screen that shows the Samsung Galaxy S2 logo with the model number.
I tried the following:
1- Took out the battery for a while then returned it and turned the phone on and the same problem happened.
2- Took out the SIM card and the SD card, turned the phone on and the same problem happened.
3- I had no access to recovery mode however I was able to access the download mode.

Hi, that means the kernel flash seems to be giving bit trouble.
I am not sure about the process you followed, your previous Rom and your rooting methods. But what I can suggest you is to reflash the new cwm capable kernel and I believe there it brings all the recovery and boot process.
For I9100 to boot 4.1.2 Rom try Dorimanx, Siyah and boeffla kernels which are best successful kernels.
You take high care in downloading the right kernel and flashing. You can try all three above said and see if anyone can help us recover.

I tried to flash a kernal onto it, it looked like kit was working fine then after it finished and phone rebooted it still went back to logo screen with yellow triangle again. Any advice? I brought the phone used but bricked it in like half an hour lol im sad sad at myself. I just wanted jellybean lol gawd why. Any advice welcome. Also if i have no luck will i be able to take it to a repair place to get it fixed or is it just smoked forever more?
Thanks mate.
Ps my phone is a sII I9100.

U can always have the right kernel installed for any new or older ROMs. Stock Rom kernel should be carefully dealt however.
If u r looking specifically to move to stock Rom, then will let u know in detail.

Hello Chaladi,
I think I broke my phone. I tried to flash a kernel and then I rebooted my phone and it would’t start up. As everyone says it stuckes at the start-up logo and I can access the download mode only, but when I conect my phone to the PC, Odin seems not to find the phone, therefore I can’t flash any kernel-ROM. PLEASE help me out! Is my phone completely broken? Do I need to buy a new one?
Thank you in advance!

Hi Chaladi,
i have my dads old galaxy S2, it was stuck on the logo screen. i was able to go into download mode which i did and proceeded to do the flash thing with Odin and Siyah. But after about 2 hours it was still at the first box with nothing changed since starting it. In the meantime i found your site and read about taking the battery out for min 15 minutes so i decided to stop Odin and do the battery thing. After about 20/25 mins of battery being out i put it back in and now i have absolutely nothing, cant get into download/recovery mode, doesn’t show as being plugged into my laptop…nothing.
So is it because i stopped Odin ? maybe it was doing its thing and i stopped it when i shouldn’t have…..anyway whats done is done. Do i have any next steps i can follow, I cant see anything on screen and my laptop doesn’t recognize it, i dont know where to go next……any help would be highly appreciated
thanks Davin
ps: as far as i know it wasn’t rooted and i have no need to save any data or anything whatsoever, just would like to get it working again…thanks

Hi Chaladi, thanks for your support. I did what the manual said, I used the odin program and flash it with the Siyah Kernel, the odin progam said that everything was ok, but then I get the GT-i9100 logo with an admiration mark, and then a ying-yang logo that keeps flashing, but the phone wont start.
Do you know what else can I do.

Hi sorry about that.
That means kernel is not supporting the ROM. The boot files are corrupted, can be a reason. You can swap boot files to do that, but before that try another kernel like dorimanx or boeffla.
Ensure the right kernel version is used.

Hi Pears,
Since REcovery is not available, only leftover option is Download Mode.
You are left with no other options, except Kernel Update and/or ROM Update. I believe that Kernel Injection will surely solve this problem. But for a successful Solution you should definitely do a good research on getting the right Kernel for your device.
I am telling you that Before flashing some kernel and seeing no results, you first do your ground work in getting the right kernel from XDA sites or from Original Kernel sources.
If you have trouble, Please let me know. I will do my best in helping you.

Hi Kroe,
This is little complicated process since you were not aware of the Modem/baseband Version of your phone. I am giving you few links here from the information I collected from you. Since you were telling that you got your phone from Austria and Your Android is 2.1. Download the below Files and follow my process As I say.
Download these Files:
1- Odin Tool – http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachdl/181790ee1949a546aad082e55f0dc1e6/525abbe9/5/8/1/9/1/3/Odin3-v1.85.zip
2- CF Root files:
Since we are not aware of Baseband exactly, I narrowed down to two CF files, where we will try 2 files to test our LUCK.
2.1 – http://download.chainfire.eu/155/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip
2.2 – http://download.chainfire.eu/122/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVP-v3.7-CWM3RFS.zip
2.3 – http://trollfactory.fr/dl/PackageRootAnyVersion.zip
Keep the 2.3 Link Safe, the ZIP file has i9000 Kernel, which we will try for the last sort.
———————————————————————————————–
Extract all the 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 Folders to Individual Folders, where .tar files will be extracted.
Open Downloaded “Odin” and extract it on the desktop.
Step 3: Switch Off your phone, take out the battery and insert it back. Now boot your phone into Download Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Home button together, and then press the Power button till you see the Android Construction logo. Once again press Power/Volume Up button to confirm.
Step 4: Open “Odin.exe” (from extracted folder) and connect your phone via USB cable with your computer in download mode. If your phone is connected successfully the one of the ID:COM boxes will turn yellow.
Step 5: Click on “PDA” button and select file “cf-root-xx_oxa_xxx-xx.x-cwm3rfs.tar” (where we will use the first File, 2.1 Downloaded link CF file).
Step 6: Please make sure that only F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot options are checked on Odin.
Step 7: Now, click on the “Start button” on Odin to start the installation process. Installation will take a few minutes to complete so please wait for the complete process.
Step 8: Finally, when the installation process is completed successfully you will see the “PASS” message on Odin and then your device will reboot automatically.
Once that completes, your phone should be booted off. However if that doesn’t succeed, try 2.2 File link, if that too fails we will try 2.3 General i9000 Kernel. However before doing that reply me if the two files of 2.1 and 2.2 fails to boot off phone.
But saying it prior, if two fails, then we will install I9000 kernel and will reboot and then we will install one of the CF files again.

That’s when your system boot files corrupted along with system files. One thing we can do is, go to recovery and backup data only… In advanced mode and then now use odin and put new Rom… And install it using wiping cache and dalvik cache and after that boot off again to recovery and restore data from previous backup.
Be sure that you select advanced restore option and u restore data only with system and boot files intact.

Hi Chaladi.
I Have a Galaxy S II GT – i9100. The problem that I am facing is of a “Force Close Loop”. My phone was in screen lock mode and Facebook app was open when suddenly it dropped. When I unlocked it, the lock screen did not swipe off the screen completely and the phone got hanged. Behind it I could see that the facebook app was hanged and there was a message saying it has stopped responding and the options that were available were “Stop Now”, “Wait” and one more which I don’t remember. Since the phone was not responding I had to take out the battery to restart it.
After restarting the phone booted normally but I was faced with a rush of continuous force close pop up windows, many apps crashed. I hardly managed to quickly close the popups and turn off the phone, removed the battery and turned it on again but the problem persisted and got worse so in the end I got this popup again and again:
“The application LogsProvider (process com.sec.android.provider.logsprovider) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force Close.”
After searching on the internet I found a solution to the problem, so I tried that.
Which is:
Turn off the phone (hold the power button if the power-off menu won’t appear).
Boot in recovery mode (holding volume up key + home key + power button at same time).
Choose the fourth option “wipe cache partition” (using the volume keys to select option and then Home button to excecute).
Allow to reboot normally and problem solved.
Now after doing all this I selected the “Reboot system now” option. When I did this I got a message:
E: Error in /data/log/recovery_log.txt
(read only file system)
E: copy_kernal_file :: Can’t open /data/log/recovery_kernel_log.txt
Rebooting
After Rebooting the phone is still in the same condition. Please help me as they are very

I would Suggest getting a new battery. Maybe if you have a friend who has an S2 as well. This can be caused by the battery becoming shorted and not gaining enough charge to allow even the faulty battery warning symbol to appear.
If it is not the battery, it is the phone. Maybe try putting an already charged battery in to see if the charging circuit for the battery is fried in your phone. If that also fails, then the phone is screwed and you will need to pay to get it repaired if it is outside of warranty.
Good luck.

Chaladi, thank you so much for all the help you have put here!
I have tried the solutions you have posted, but Im afraid that my problem with my Galaxy Skyrocket i727 is different. The problem started one day that I left my phone charging during the night and I left an alarm to wake me up (as usual) and in the morning I didnt hear the alarm but I found the phone turned off and just vibrating every 2 seconds. Also, it was very very hot, and there was a sign in the screen of the battery and a yellow triangle (not the one that indicates it’s out of battery, but another). The vibrating didn’t stop, so I took out the battery, put it back again and the vibrating was still on. Then I took the battery off for the whole day, and i connected the phone to the computer and then I inserted the battery, and for a moment it seemed the phone was restarting but the sign of battery with triangle appeared again and so the vibration.
After 2 or 3 days of trying taking battery on and off the phone was dead, and not even the vibration was happening. It is completely dead, even if I left it charging for hours and hours. And yes, i have tried using 3 different chargers, and nothing happens.
What can it be? Im sooo afraid of having lost the phone forever, and I need some important information and photos I have there 😦 I would so much appreciate your help!
Thanks!

Hello
I recently rooted my s2 SCH-r760. it was running GB (though I don’t remember which edition at the moment). The phone started randomly rebooting itself about a week after the root. Up until that point I had not had a bit of trouble with it running the Kernel that allowed the root. I had made a copy of the original kernel before I attempted the root (just in case). After it started rebooting I restored it to the factory kernel. It continued to shut off and reboot at random times. I contacted my US Cellular Tech and he said to bring it in and we can do the update to JB. So I did. That allowed it to quit rebooting for about 10 min (I think the longest time it has gone with rebooting) It is not necessarily stuck in a boot loop, but it is very aggravating. The power button has since quit responding without pressing it 30 to 40 times. I Can get the power button to respond enough to go into recovery mode and into reset mode…. though it won’t allow me to select the factory hard reset. I don’t really care about losing data on this phone. I’ve already lost all the data at least twice and since gotten a replacement phone but would love to get this one fixed. There is no warranty left on it. Any help would be much appreciated

I have taken the battery out and left it for 30 mins and then put it back and plugged it back in, no charging indication, no power, nothing.
Before this, it used to be gingerbread, and the data capabilities of the cable did not work. it for some reason thought it was connected to a data cable when it was plugged into a wall though… I upgraded to jellybean and rooted yesterday, to get what I wanted off of it and onto my new S4.
on another note, my S4 doesnt think im connected to a network. i told them (telstra, australia) to keep my old number, and my S2 told me it had a higher data cap than before, so the changed worked, but my S4 wont work. I think I will call telstra about this tomorrow though unless you can help. My main concern is getting at least one of the phones in a working condition.

Hi sorry fir the delayed response.
U don’t have to be too familiar to act on this process.
All u need is little patience and some info prior start. U can simply follow the process mentioned here to solve ur problems.
U can try changing ur Rom to get things rightful. If ur of s2 owner then process is same of finding suitable kernels and flashing off.

Hi taimia…
Have u tried getting into download mode? If you haven’t rooted your phone, then download mode is the only option else recovery mode helps too.
Once getting into download mode, we can see if modding any boot files or kernel will help us.

Hi there, i’m hoping you can help me here.
I was on my internet browser reading an article when it suddenly closed and said ‘Internet browser has stopped responding’ or something to that affect. It then followed up with a black screen and I was not able to do anything, and so I removed the battery and placed it back in. The phone turned on and was stuck at the Samsung logo. I repeated the process of taking the battery out again, and now the phone doesn’t do anything at all! I can’t get in to recovery/download mode either. I have never rooted/flashed the phone as I am not that good with technology. Do you know what the problem could be and how I can fix it?
Thanks!

Hi Keelan,
Did U just taken out the battery and put it back and tested? If it’s for sure not at all charging even though Battery is reinserted, then the battery has to be replaced immediately. Before that, Try a different power source like; USB power source or maybe a different power Plug with a different Adapter.
This will slightly narrow down the exact problem source for us. If for some reasons, the Power source is problem we end up with no money spending for issue isolation. If Adapter is problem, we have got that. If nothings working, battery should be blamed. I Believe that should help us.
I stress You take out battery for 10 Min minimum to see if that can help us.
Cheers!

Hi sandeep,
Did u tried giving it a min 6 hours battery out and rechecked if that helps?
If u tried all methods like, keep it charged again from pc, or ac power and able to see any life of it?
If tried all and still not succeeded, I believe there must be something wrong with the hardware level fault.
Since u were telling that there’s no sign of life… It must be something we have to deal with hardware ROM chip reset. For which service is needed.

Thanks for your quick reply
I tried by keeping it out of battery full night and next day it will show up the battery sign when i connect it to pc, a round white colour loads up and gets stuck on the half of the circle.
This happened twice. Morning it shows the battery sign and small white colour lines blink after some time and the battery sign goes off.
LikeLike
Ok! So that narrows down to a boot files are corrupted, that should be blamed on ROM. Next time u give long gap for battery out, u directly hit DOWNLOAD mode keys after putting up battery and connecting to pc and see if that can go in one shot. If it goes, we can solve the issue easily by tweakit kernels and boot data.
Cheers!

LikeLike
Oh! U did a factory rest… Oops! U can backup your complete phone as is and restore every thing in future just that will replicate in looking like backed up older phone. You can do this by doing an Nandroid backup: go to CWM and there in backup and restore, select backup to sdcard or internal as u wish, and save the existing phone data along with apps, contacts and everything your phone has, including icons placed on homescreen. In future you can hit restore from recovery mode and get back all ur data from there.
But again, if u want to backup apps, call logs and sms all separate, therez better way to do it than eating lot of memoryw for a nandroid backup. U can use Titanium backup and backup applications data, apps too, sms, and restw too.
For call log backups, use call log backup and restore to save an xml file that will save every call u made.
But again, a single nandroid backup in the phone is recommended. Cos we never knew when such cases arise again while playing with phone in future.
Cheers!

Hello…
I am in need of assistance. My GS2 was rooted and I was constantly getting reminders about the OTA update. Because my phone was rooted, it would never take to the update.
So after 6 months of irritating reminders to update, I unrooted my phone to do the update. I flashed a stock rom HOME_SPH-D710_CL852097_user.tar.md5 .
After that was successfully completed, I performed the OTA update.
This is when my troubles began… The phone was acting weird and not accessing certain apps. So I deleted the unnecessary apps.
Last night, my phone died because I did not place it on the charger… Then this morning, after being charged all night while turned off…. would constantly reboot every 30 seconds or so.
I tried everything… nothing worked.
I attempted to flash the rom you suggested above… Siyah-s2-v4.1.5.tar and it successfully installed however when I went to reboot the phone, it now reboots to a black screen and does nothing.
Help!
I am able to get into both download and recovery modes but am trying to refrain from doing a hard reset as I have not had a chance to back up my phone files. I would like to try to resolve the issue before resorting to the hard reset.

Hi Annie,
If it’s bricked, it means you cannot access the Phone Memory Location, unless your phone boots off from Kernel and load boot files into memory; atleast boots up without any loops; it can be blacked out screen too. Sorry for that Techie sort of explanation, however if you wanted to recover DCIM folder; where Maximised chances of Photos being saved are stored in Internal SD card, so First Internal memory has to be read using PC or Phone itself.
I am sorry that, I cannot foresee any solution for this without Booting off Phone first. I will see if i Can help you with this.
